We produced a far from vintage ‘Stute performance away to Larne yesterday evening as we struggled to get our passing game going. However, in saying that, the boys showed great heart and character to come back from a goal down, to win the match 2-1. In truth, we probably should have bagged a couple more goals. Although it was more of a scrappy affair with not much football being played, the togetherness in this young ‘Stute side is there for everyone to see and that showed after the game as there was a great buz on the long bus journey home.
At 1-0 to the hosts, Gareth Muldoon produced a fine save which kept us in the game. This seemed to have given the boys a lift, as shortly after that, Aaron Jarvis converted a quality free-kick to send us in to the break at 1-1.
Into the second half and after a high press from our boys on their defence, the ball fell to Seamus Quinn who slotted a lovely weighted ball through to Alex Pomery, who in turn, finished neatly to make it 2-1 to Institute! The boys continued to threaten and their persistence nearly paid off again as Adam Dougherty’s shot agonisingly hit the inside of the post and was then cleared on the line by a Larne defender. In the last 10 minutes, we were under a little bit of pressure, but the boys managed to hold out!
The coaching staff are delighted with every one of the boys again as they continue to develop and give everything they have for each other.
Final score: Larne 1-2 Institute
