MILLION POUND DEVELOPMENT GETS GO AHEAD AT RIVERSIDE STADIUM.
Institute Football Club has after four years of planning received approval for a one million pound scheme at the Riverside Stadium, Drumahoe. The work is due to commence in November this year and will be completed by March 2011.
Improvements include a new east covered stand with 650 seats, new turnstiles, upgrading of security fencing, CCTV, control room, media suite new ladies, gents and disabled toilet facilities and a lift to first floor with new viewing area.
Total capital cost of this project is £956,000. The major funder of this project is Northern Ireland Executive (Sport NI) with additional financial support from the Irish Football Association and Deny City Council.
The professional team consisting of Durnien.com as Lead consultants, Quantity Surveyors and CDM Co-ordinators, Miller Partnership as the Architects, Albert Fry Associates as the Structural Engineers and Bennett Robertson as the Mechanical and Electrical Engineers have been involved with the Project since 2008 and bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge from previous stadiums the most notable being Manchester United FC, Rangers FC, Celtic FC and Windsor Park. Lowry Brothers Ltd were awarded the Construction Contract.
The overall development is in line with Sport Northern Ireland Stadia Safety Programme Phase III, for the health and safety of spectators attending matches.
Speaking about the award, Sport Northern Ireland Chief Executive Eamonn McCartan said:
“Sport Northern Ireland are delighted to fund the capital works project at the Riverside Stadium under the Stadia Safety Programme as it will greatly improve the safety infrastructure at the venue, and also ensure that the facilities on offer meet the expectations of spectators in terms of comfort and accessibility”.
Institute FC fully appreciate the support given by the YMCA to this ongoing development within their grounds at Drumahoe, Londonderry. The main contractors Lowry Brothers Ltd, based in Castlederg and well established in the
local building and civil engineering industries for over 30 years, has a sound reputation for delivering quality projects to a wide customer base in the North West area, with regular clients in the commercial, education, health, social housing, and sport & community sectors.
The capacity of the Riverside Stadium when the work is completed will be increased to 3,000.
