Institute laid claim to North-West bragging rights with this comfortable derby defeat of Limavady United at The Showgrounds.
‘Stute needed just two minutes to seize the advantage after Stephen Parkhouse collected a corner which had been cut back through a crowded penalty area to fire low past Laurence McCormick.
Sean Roddy might have added doubled their lead within a quarter-of-an-hour after forcing McCormick into gathering a free-kick at the second attempt.
And McCormick was called into action again in the 23rd minute after he pushed a Declan McKeever away to the right.
However, United came storming back on 26 minutes to equalise after Richard Close beat Corey Wilson when the ball fell kindly for him after his initial effort was blocked.
But ‘Stute regained the advantage on 38 minutes after a Roddy free-kick took a deflection off the wall before looping over McCormick.
Then, three minutes later, McCormick pushed away a Darren McCauley half-volley as the visitors looked to seal the game before the break.
Chances were at a premium in a weather affected second half with substitute Robbie Hume perhaps coming closest to extending Institute’s lead with three minutes remaining when he rounded McCormick only to see the ball cleared off the line.
