Institute comfortably cruised to victory in the first of two local derbies in quick succession. A heavy pitch and treacherous footing hampered Stute’s passing game in the opening stages and it wasn’t until the 20th minute before the first serious attempt on goal by either side. Shortly after, two goals in as many minutes put Stute in command, Robbie Hume volleying in off the post and Aaron Walsh firing through a crowd of players from 25 yards. The match opened up as a contest after this, but it was an hour later until the next goals; a quickfire brace settling the match. Darren McFadden was involved in both of them: tumbling in the box to earn the penalty that Darren McCauley dispatched and playing in Hume to score his second. The scoring was completed when the unlucky ex-Stute player Ryan Browne scored in his own net after a Hume effort was parried. Hume missed a late chance to complete his hat-trick when he ballooned an effort over the bar from inside the six-yard box. It would have been easier to score! Stute’s next match is at home to Newbuildings on Friday night in the Craig Memorial Cup.
