After a 4-2 victory against tonight’s opponents on Saturday, ‘Stute were hoping to get a first leg advantage and clinch a few away goals before Friday’s second and final leg.
The first half was a cagey affair with ‘Stute looking unsettled and Ballyclare looking scrappy, the final prize clearly playing on minds. However, Ballyclare became gradually dominant towards the end of the half creating several opportunities. ‘Stute’s attack on the home goal was primarily from corners. Despite this Sammy Morrow had a fantastic opportunity towards the end of the half but it was squandered.
Second half the pattern of play remained the same, however there was more opportunities for both sides. ‘Stute looking threatening when chances were created, forcing saves from the Ballyclare keeper, as well as being denied by the crossbar. Martin Gallagher had a string of impressive saves before Ballyclare’s persistence paid off and Corey McMullan drilled a superb shot into the bottom corner. ‘Stute tried to retaliate however it was too late, and the game finished with the long range strike remaining the difference.
