After a disappointing defeat mid week in the cup, ‘Stute were keen to continue their league momentum and bounce back against East Belfast side Knockbreada.
‘Stute started the first half playing very attractive football and dictating the tempo. After three minutes and a well worked move Gareth Brown scored a rocket from twenty yards to give ‘Stute an early league. Several half opportunities fell to ‘Stute, with Niall Grace creating a well worked opportunity however nothing materialised. Knockbreda had several opportunities from set plays, however only one forced Marty Gallagher into a good save. ‘Stute continued to press and play not put off from the physical challenge, and despite many stoppages. Harkin, Brown and Bonner standing out in the first half.
The second half however was a scrappy and physical affair with limited opportunities. Niall Grace was pivotal in midfield and put in a fantastic captains performance. As the second half entered the final twenty minutes ‘Stute’s concentration and game management was put to the test with Knockbreda adopting a direct approach. ‘Stute defender Bonner was unplayable in the air and ensured chances were few and far between for the home side. Despite playing four in attack ‘Stute were able to see out the second half and take home three points.
