Despite fears today’s game would be called off due to adverse weather conditions, Institute went ahead and faced table toppers, Warrenpoint after a pitch inspection at 09:30 this morning.
League leaders Warrenpoint started the first half strong, controlling the game first ten minutes. However, ‘Stute soon found their feet and started forcing Warrenpoint back wards. Institutes shape and pressing first half was fantastic, Andy Devlin and Jamie McIntyre looking threatening down ‘Stute’s right hand side, with Darryl McDermott remaining strong at the back. Warrenpoint had several half opportunities, forcing Gallagher on a few occasions into making a save; however the best chance of the first half fell to Sammy Morrow, who fired straight at the keeper and passed the opportunity to put ‘Stute one ahead.
A disjointed start to the second half cost ‘Stute an early goal. The second half was full of opportunities for both sides. Institute had a few late corners and free-kicks, two of which cleared off the line; and where unlucky with a questionable offside. Institute where hard done by not getting an equaliser.
Full Time: Institute 0 vs. Warrenpoint 1
