The first-team succumbed to a disheartening 3-2 defeat against reigning champions Cliftonville as Paul Kee’s side continued their Premiership campaign on Saturday – a stoppage time finish from substitute Stephen Garrett undoing an otherwise heroic performance from the Sky Blues.
The opening phase of the game finished with the scoreline stalemated after goals from David McDaid and Chris Curran were twice ruled out by equalisers from Declan McKeever and Stephen Curry – and though the home team maintained their positive display in the second period, along with a great individual showing from captain Paddy McLaughlin in the heart of defence, it wasn’t enough to secure the draw.
Despite the loss, the match turnout was fantastic once more as the stands at all ends were packed with supporters from both Institute and Cliftonville, and the club committee would like to thank everyone who attended the game.
