Institute maintained their impressive start to the season with a convincing 5-1 win over title favourites Carrick Rangers at the Riverside Stadium today. The game was essentially over as a contest after half an hour, by which time Stute had moved into a commanding 3-0 lead courtesy of a McVeigh own goal and efforts from Carlin and McFadden.
Two from man of the match McCauley in the second half, an excellent finish into the roof of the net from an acute angle and a penalty after being upended in the area, either side of a Burns consolation goal for Carrick completed the rout.
This was the second time in succession that Carrick have conceded five at the Riverside and it piles the pressure on manager Hughes. Meanwhile, Stute have moved up to 3rd place; 3 points behind leaders Dundela and with a game in hand.
