Institute welcomed bottom of the league Larne to Wilton Park today, with the home side needing three points to keep the pressure at the top.
In the opening twenty minutes Larne however did not look like a team at the bottom of the league. With high pressing and good creativity they forced ‘Stute goal keeper Martian Gallagher into making several smart saves. However, on twenty minutes they had a man sent off, and this killed any momentum. Not long after the sending off, ‘Stute captain Michael McCrudden went on a skilful run in the final third, and set Stephen Curry up to score the first goal of the game. From this Larne lost all rythem and resorted to a direct style of football, with centre backs Bonner and Dean Curry showing their arieal prowess yet again. The first half ended with ‘Stute on top.
The second half started as the first half ended, with ‘Stute creating the most opportunities. As the second half went on the play became increasingly scrappy, with the home side doing all the attacking. As the away struggled to adapt to the sending off, Jamie Dunne got a much deserved goal to give ‘Stute a comfortable lead. ‘Stute created several more opportunities with Aaron Harkin, instrumental in the middle of the pitch. Just after the seventy minute mark, ‘Stute grabbed a third. Aaron Harkin yet again played a fantastic through ball to Stephen Curry, who put it on a plate for substitute Ronan Wilson, to well and truly end the game.
