Institute take on H&W Welders in their first match at Wilton Park. ‘Stute looked to carry on the momentum that has been key to their success in the League, and build upon their impressive 3-1 victory in the
North West Cup Final against Coleraine.
The start of the first half was slow and scrappy with both sides showing no quality. Despite this Welders took an early lead with a great goal. However despite the poor weather ‘Stute persevered and started playing good football. Niall Grace made a deep run from midfield and took the ball down on his chest and volleyed home to give ‘Stute a deserved goal, and bring the scores even. Three minutes later Ryan Morrow scored a fantastic goal from the edge box, firing ‘Stute into the lead. ‘Stute worked incredibly hard the rest of the half with aggressive pressing and some well worked passing. The first half came to an end and ‘Stute took a goal advantage into the break.
The second half however was a different story. Welders came back out second half chasing the game. However, for all they’re possession they created little in terms of efforts on goal. With fantastic pressing and game management ‘Stute showed the winning mentality and character that they’ve showed the entire season. Gareth Brown was instrumental in initiating the press. Fantastic start at our temporary home.
