Institute recorded their second successive 2-0 victory with a home win over Ards. The visitors had the better of the early exchanges, though Stute had the ball in the net after 17 minutes only for it to be controversially ruled offside. With 10 minutes left of the half, Ards were reduced to 10 men, when McIlhagga, who had already been booked, pulled back Joe McCready and received his marching orders. Almost immediately, the home side made their numerical advantage count when McCauley broke into the box and laid the ball off to McCready, whose dangerous ball across the face of goal was turned in by an Ards defender who just got there in front of Stute’s Davitt Walsh.
Institue doubled their lead with their first attack of the second half when centre back Graham Crown got on the end of a corner. The rest of the half lacked many clear cut chances, though Ards could probably have pulled at least one back with some sharper finishing. The win moves Stute level with Ards, who have played a game more.
