‘Stute slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to Larne the Riverside Stadium in Tuesday night’s re-arranged Ladbrokes.com Championship 1 match.
It was an entertaining match and the first half was particularly evenly contested. It was a largely end to end first half with Larne’s stand in goalkeeper David Henry called into action early with two good stops.
Larne’s best chance of the half was when Davy Larmour’s sweetly struck volley from the left corner of the penalty area flashed just wide. Whilst, Joe McCready was unlucky not to find the net when he beat David Henry but saw his shot run wide of the post.
The visitors started the second half slowly and fell behind after 50 minutes. Divin’s header towards goal was touched into the net by McCready right on the line.
Larne had struggled with their final ball until the 70th minute. Liam Carland won the ball in midfield and played a ball through the Institute defence. Ricky Higgins made a clever run on the blindside of the defence and found himself one on one with Alan Ryan in the Institute goal. Higgins calmly slotted the ball through Ryan’s legs to bring Larne back on equal terms.
Six minutes later, the Inver Reds took the lead. A Larne corner was initially cleared, but Marc Brown did well to hook the ball back into the box. Mark Craig struck a superb dipping volley into the net leaving the keeper with no chance.
Allen Reid completed the scoring in the last minute with another excellent finish. The midfielder picked the ball up 25 yards from goal. He ran directly into the box and beat a couple of defenders before emphatically lashing the ball into the net.
