Institute’s promotion bid suffered a fatal blow after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Warrenpoint. Stephen Hughes put the ‘Point ahead just before the break after a long ball down field caught Stute napping and the striker finished well to put the ‘Point 1 up at the break. A rejuvenated Stute came out after half time and deservedly got an equaliser through a Stephen Parkhouse penalty. With the game looking certain to finish 1-1- Warrenpoint were threw a lifeline when the Stute stopper Corey Wilson upended Hughes in the box to give Warrenpoint a penalty in the 89th minute- with the ref showing Wilson a straight red. Paddy McLaughlin stepped into nets- but could do nothing about the resulting penalty as Stephen McCabe dispatched it into the bottom corner. The result now leaves Warrenpoint 3 points clear going into the final game of the season- meaning that Stute have to beat Carrick and need a favour from our neighbours Limavady to beat Warrenpoint.
