Institute were the architects of their own downfall this afternoon in a top of the table clash that failed to live up to its billing. Some lax midfield play in the 8th minute gave Ballinamallard an opening and ex-Stute striker Andy Crawford made no mistake to continue his scoring run. Soon after the half hour mark, things went from bad to worse for the home side when John Curran was harshly shown a straight red card for a rash challenge. However despite being reduced to 10 men, and seeing Stephen Parkhouse limp off soon after, Stute rallied and finished the half much more strongly than they started it. For the first 25 minutes of the second half, the home side were the only team that looked like scoring, and spurned a number of promising opportunities, until disaster struck when a mix-up between defender and goalkeeper saw Crawford let in for an easy second. A diving header by Jason McCartney saw Ballinamallard add a late third to give the scoreline a flattering look and end a very disappointing afternoon for Stute.
