Having triumphed over Limavady 3 times already this season, Institute would have been hoping to make it 4 in a row at a wet Riverside Stadium this afternoon. The home side did start brightly, and had the best of the opening exchanges, without creating many clear-cut chances. It was the visitors who took the lead however, when Lee Patrick rose highest to score a with a bullet header on 23 minutes. After this, Limavady were on top, and were only denied a second from a free kick by the woodwork. At the other end, Stute’s best chance was in a goalmouth scramble where no-one could find a finishing touch.
Early in the second half the home side had a great chance to equalise, but Parkhouse fired wide. 15 minutes into the second half it was 2-0. The home side will feel aggrieved that they weren’t awarded a free when keeper Corey Wilson seemed to be impeded. Instead, Limavady were awarded a corner, and in the resulting scramble, Neil Harkin divided and palmed away the ball to prevent it crossing the line. He was duly given his marching orders, and Gareth McConaghie sent the resulting penalty straight down the middle.
Stute never really looked getting back into the game, which by now was being played in torrential rain, and so finish 2011 in 4th place.
