Kevin Deery was able to rest a couple of key players this afternoon in what was our final league game of the season, away to Ballyclare. In doing so, this allowed Adam Dougherty and Caiomahan McCallion a chance to impress in the first team, and impress they did! Both players looked lively throughout and deserved to be on the winning side in the end.
The first half-hour was quite quiet with the two defences coming out on top over attack. However, on 30 minutes, McIntyre was brought down in the box and Stephen Curry stepped up to put ‘Stute ahead from the spot. Curry doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time after an impressive strike from 25 yards out that flew into the bottom corner.
The second half was quite eventful – even assistant manager Paddy McLaughlin made an appearance from the bench on the 70th minute! On the 79th minute, Kyle Friel-Curran lobbed the Ballyclare keeper after a mix-up at the back to put ‘Stute 3-0 ahead. If you thought the game was over then, you were wrong as Ballyclare pulled two quick fire goals back to put the pressure on for the last 10 minutes. That was until, Gareth Brown (photo) popped up to slot home at the near post to make it Ballyclare 2-4 Institute.
Final score: Ballyclare 2-4 Institute.
Both sides now look ahead to the 2 leg play-off. Institute will play away to Ballyclare on Tuesday night with the return leg being played in Drumahoe next Friday night. Everyone welcome.
