Institute Colts crashed out of this years Harry Cavan Cup in Saturday’s second round clash at Claredon, Belfast. The Drumahoe boys conceded two early first half goals and while they did produced a much improved second half performance they failed to pose a real threat on the Woodvale goal despite dominating possession.
In the 12th minute the ‘Stute defence lost possession in their own half and an alert Woodvale forward produced a stunning finish firing a shot beyond the reach of ‘keeper Matthewson from distance. Only three minutes later the home side doubled their lead after ‘Stute defender Connolly appeared to have been fouled but the referee allowed play to continue until McDermott’s mistimed tackle led to a penalty which was duly dispatched.
Institute regained their composure but found an inspired Woodvale difficult to break down. Two good second half chances were easily smothered by the home ‘keeper but this proved to be the Belfast sides day and it is they who progress to round three of this years competition.
